Jim Brennan defined the word "sharpshooter," as he once made 41 consecutive free throws. His 17.3 career points per game still ranks fourth in school history. Twice he was named second-team All-ACC, and in 1962, he became Clemson's first All-ACC Tournament first-team selection. He was also a two-time Academic All-ACC selection, the first Clemson player to make the first-team. His success on and off the court earned Brennan the distinction of being the first Clemson player to make the All-ACC and the Academic All-ACC teams in the same season.
Brennan's most memorable performance came in the 1962 ACC Tournament when he scored 34 points in the semifinal to upset eighth-ranked Duke. He scored 70 points in the tournament, still the most ever by a Tiger. Even though he played in just 76 games, he is 15th in school history in total scoring. In 1964, he finished 20th in the nation in free throw percentage. His career free throw percentage ranks sixth in Clemson history.
After his time at Clemson, Brennan was drafted in the ninth round by the Philadelphia Warriors. He later returned to Clemson and was an assistant coach for five years under Bobby Roberts. He was inducted into the Clemson Hall of Fame in 1983.
