Jackie Calvert played football at Clemson from 1948-50 and was a first-team All-American at safety. He still holds the career record for rushing yards per attempt and was the captain of the 1951 Orange Bowl team. That season, he led the team in all-purpose yards. He is also still second in Clemson history in career yards per pass attempt and ninth in passing efficiency.
After playing at Clemson, Calvert was a 25th-round draft pick of the Los Angeles Rams. He was inducted into the Clemson Hall of Fame in 1977.
