Clemson, SC -- David May fired a one-under-par 69 on Sunday, tied for the second best round in the field, to lead Clemson to a 289 team score and a fourth place standing at The Brickyard collegiate golf tournament in Macon, GA. Clemson is in fourth-place overall, but just two shots out of the lead.
Georgia, Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech are all tied for first after two rounds with scores of 577. The Tigers are fourth at 579, followed by fifth-place Penn State at 582 and Augusta State at 584. ACC foe Florida State is seventh at 587, while Duke is eighth at 588.
The 54-hole event on the par 70 course that is 7,104 yards in length will conclude on Monday. May has a 36-hole score of one-over-par 141. The Clemson senior is just one shot off the lead, which is held by Nick Archambault of Penn State who has had a pair of 70s so far. May had a 33 on the front nine, followed by a 36 on the back. It was the second straight day that May was at least tied for the best Clemson golfer.
Phillip Mollica had a one-over-par 71 on Sunday and is in a tie for sixth place overall, giving Clemson two of the top 10 competitors so far. Mollica, who shot a pair of 67s during the team qualifying for this event, had an opening round 72. He was very consistent on Sunday with 16 pars, a double bogey and a birdie.
Ben Martin shot a 73 in the second round and stands at seven-over-par 147 through two rounds. The native of Greenwood, SC is in a tie for 26th place.
Alex Boyd and Kyle Stanley both had rounds of 76 on Sunday. It was in fact the second straight 76 for Stanley, while Boyd had a two-over-par 72 on Saturday to start the tournament.
McCuen Elmore is playing this tournament as an individual. After an opening round 82, the Clemson red-shirt freshman improved to a solid 73.
