GREENVILLE, SC - Patrick Murray scored the game-winning goal in the first overtime period to give Furman a 2-1 victory over Clemson in a men's intercollegiate soccer match at Greenville, SC Tuesday night.

With the win, Furman is now 10-5-1 overall, while Clemson falls to 4-7-2 this season. This was the first time since the 1999 season that Furman has defeated Clemson.

Furman scored midway in the first half at the 24:48 mark. Fabien Vorbe took a shot and Clemson's goalkeeper Joseph Bendik saved the shot. However the ball dropped to his left and Vorbe knocked in the rebound for his fourth goal of the year.

Clemson tied the score at the 48:10 mark, just 3:10 into the second half.

Connor Barbaree sent a pass to Nick Burton. Burton drove into the six-yard box and sent a diagonal shot into the lower right corner of the net for his second goal of the year.

Patrick Murray scored the game winner on a give and go with 2:48 left to go in the first overtime period. Murray gave the ball to Coleton Henning who sent the ball back to Murray from the left. Murray sent a 20-yard shot into the left side of the goal for his fourth goal of the season.

"This was a tough way to lose," said Clemson Head Coach Trevor Adair.

"Our team showed character coming back, but we couldn't Furman away. We created chances, but we couldn't put them away. I'm proud of the way we fought and never gave up."

Clemson will play host to ACC-foe North Carolina on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. in the Tigers' next action.
